The people of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) are united by a singular mission: ending cancer for life. Our specialized care teams provide personalized, compassionate, expert care to patients of all ages. Informed by basic research done at our Sloan Kettering Institute, scientists across MSK collaborate to conduct innovative translational and clinical research that is driving a revolution in our understanding of cancer as a disease and improving the ability to prevent, diagnose, and treat it. MSK is dedicated to training the next generation of scientists and clinicians, who go on to pursue our mission at MSK and around the globe. One of the world’s most respected comprehensive centers devoted exclusively to cancer, we have been recognized as one of the top two cancer hospitals in the country by U.S. News & World Report for more than 30 years.
Exciting Opportunity at MSK: Faculty Physicist, Radiotherapy Physics Division
The Division of Radiotherapy Physics within the Department of Medical Physics has an opportunity available at the Assistant or Associate Attending Physicist level (equivalent to Assistant or Associate Professor). This position will primarily support radiation oncology physics services at the MSK-Basking Ridge outpatient facility. Position responsibilities include routine clinical support in external beam radiation therapy, brachytherapy, and major equipment quality assurance. A significant contribution to our clinical research and development is also expected. We are particularly interested in candidates experienced in radiation instrumentation and dosimetry, automation, innovation in quality and safety, and those interested in clinical software development and machine learning techniques in radiotherapy.
- Located in Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
- 2 Varian TrueBeam linear accelerators, 1 Varian Trilogy linear accelerator (to be replaced by Varian Halcyon in 2025), 1 Varian Bravos HDR afterloader, 1 Siemens dual-energy CT simulator, and 1 PET/CT simulator (shared with Radiology).
- Staffed with three faculty-level physicists, one staff physicist, one MS-level planner physicist, and six dosimetrists.
- We embrace the OneMSK philosophy. MSK Basking Ridge is integrated seamlessly into our broader MSK network. We provide the same high standard of care and contribute to fundamental and translational research, working in harmony with all MSK facilities.
MSK has a large, cutting-edge program in all aspects of radiation oncology physics that seeks to improve the clinical effectiveness of radiation therapy in partnership with radiation oncologists, radiologists, and other medical professionals. Many programs in radiation therapy research and development are ongoing, including:
- The development and clinical use of predictive models (tumor control and normal tissue complication probability) in treatment planning
- Improved treatment planning optimization algorithms
- Integration of MR and PET imaging into radiotherapy decision-making and treatment planning
- 4D imaging and motion management
- The development of informatics-based adaptive radiotherapy processes
- Automation in radiotherapy
- Innovation in quality and safety for patient care.
The individual will also be part of our enterprise-wide radiotherapy physics team. MSK enterprise-wide radiation oncology and medical physics resources include thirty linear accelerators, one MR-Linac, six HDR units, CT Simulators, PET/CT Simulators, MRI Simulators, and state-of-the-art inter- and intra-fractional imaging and motion management capabilities. We work collaboratively to support our institutional philosophy for all facilities to provide outstanding treatment quality and contribute to the overall mission of MSK to advance the state of cancer care.
