Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Program Leadership and Development

  • Leads the EDUCAUSE Cybersecurity and Privacy Community Program, including providing direction for the strategic development and delivery of ongoing program components including:
    • identifying new trends and developments that factor into the community program events, research, services and products.
    • keeping program content up to date and relevant to support the higher education community's present challenges while preparingitfor the future.
    • in collaboration with the research team and others,conducting periodic major Cybersecurity and Privacy Program evaluations.
    • identifying andguidingprogrammatic innovations.
    • integrating topics relevant to the cybersecurity and privacy communityinto EDUCAUSE events, professional development, research, and publications.
  • Contributes to thought leadership by writing reports and articles, presenting, leading expert panels, providing media interviews, and serving as acybersecurity/privacysubject matter expert.
  • Maintains and collaborates witha highly transparent and inclusive community governance structure, such as advisory committee(s), to gather input and set priorities and strategic directions for the program while ensuring EDUCAUSE retains a sufficient and appropriate voice in the ongoing evolution of the program.
  • Works closely with the EDUCAUSE policyteamon focus area issues requiring a policy response, which includes representing EDUCAUSE in such matters as needed.

Program Operations

  • Directs the content delivery of Cybersecurity and Privacy events; collaborates with the member program advisory committee to determine the event’s theme and program, develop a schedule and secure speakers and facilitators, andcontributes toa team of EDUCAUSE staff (program leads, marketing, meeting planners and others) to plan, promote, and deliver the event.
  • Directs the delivery of Cybersecurity and Privacy programming via online channels, at the annual EDUCAUSE conference, and elsewhere as determined by the program’s governance and resources.
  • Maintains existing initiatives and products as appropriate to thestrategic directions of the program and EDUCAUSE,includingIT Risk Register, HECVAT,and the Cybersecurity and Privacy Guide.
  • Monitors community program KPIs that support the healthy evolution of the program. Oversees program quality and improvement activities.
  • Executes strategies and tactics to increase community engagement within this Community Program.
  • Suggests and evaluates recommendations to enhance existing programs and services.
  • Identifies opportunities and needs for new products and services;develops business case and product/service plan.
  • Identifies and secures resources for program development and manages the phased development and implementation of the program to deliver it within resource constraints and timeline commitments.
  • In partnership with internal teams, guides marketing messaging and promotes the value of the program both internally and externally.

Event Development and Management

  • Leads planning for the content, and in collaboration with the event management staff,adviseson the delivery of the Cybersecurity and Privacy Professionals Conference. Serves as a cybersecurity and privacy subject matter expert for the event.
  • Leads event program committees.
  • Collaborating with the event program committee co-chairs, serves as staff lead for the call for proposal process. Reviews proposals and participates in the selection process.
  • Moderates or participates in webinars in areas of subject matter expertise.
  • Coordinates and develops presentations for the EDUCAUSE annual conference and other external conferences.

Communities and Relationships

  • Extends the reach and reputationof the programby cultivating relationships with key leaders in the academic/ IT communities. Develops and maintains collaborative and collegial working relationships with leaders of relevant associations, consortia, and organizations.
  • Develops and maintains a vibrant community of member volunteers.
  • Represents EDUCAUSE as the contact point for external partnerships for key area initiatives.
  • Promotes, grows, and extends the value of the program by collaborating with other EDUCAUSE units to identify and exploit value-added intersections with other EDUCAUSE activities.

Financial Management

  • Acts as a good steward of EDUCAUSE financial and other resources.

Association Service and Support

  • Represents EDUCAUSE in a professional manner at all times; engages with co-workers, volunteers, and members in a civil, caring, respectful way.
  • Supports the professional development of others in their work to advance the mission and vision of EDUCAUSE.
  • Acts as a departmental liaison with employees, members, volunteers, volunteer groups, and clients.
  • Promotes the value ofcybersecurity and privacywithin EDUCAUSE as well as externally.
  • Participates in EDUCAUSE events and activities as needed.
  • Supports members in a manner that facilitates their growth, engagement, and enhances their EDUCAUSE experience.
  • As a frontline user of EDUCAUSE systems and data services, complies with data quality standardsandadheres to data governance policies, procedures, and processes for ensuring data integrity. May act as the application or data collection lead for the department in relevant areas.
  • Duties, responsibilities and activities may change or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice.

Qualifications: Education and Experience

  • Experience leading services and programs in higher education, information technology, or a closely related sector.
  • At least seven years’ experience of increasing responsibility leading in an area related to their program focus and programs culminating in a senior leadership role.
  • Leadership in the profession: Demonstrated ability to develop and sustain collaborative working relationships with IT and higher education leaders and technologists. Ability to develop and sustain significant professional credibility in higher ed through a record of accomplishments and activities.
  • Experience working with organizational or board leadership as well as institutional or organizational governance and/or advisory processes regarding information security strategy, information security incident response, and information security governance.
  • Certifications and on-going professional learning demonstrating subject matter expertise in information security, risk, and/or privacy (e.g., CISSP, CRISC, CIPT, CISA, etc.) are required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • A deep knowledge of current and emerging issuesin the area.
  • Passion for the field and a keen interest in staying on top of current research and practices.
  • An innovative and entrepreneurial mindset indicating a readinessto steer the Program in new directionsbased onemerging challenges and the need to strengthen EDUCAUSE’s contributions inthoseareas.
  • Ability to sustain collaborative relationships and partnershipsas well asbuild consensus within diverse communities of practice.
  • Active in working groups and professional associations withinthe fieldand/or related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated contributions, or strong interest in contributing, to thought leadership in the field through publications, conference presentations and speaking engagements.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Physical demands of travel such as sitting for long periods, handling luggage, time zone changes, and adjusting to new environments.

Remote Work Requirements

  • Scheduled working hours are 8 am - 5 pm Monday-Thursday and 8 am - noon Friday in the employee's time zone.
  • Be available and responsive during scheduled work hours.
  • Any time off or change in working hours must be pre-arranged according to department guidelines and consistent with the rules applicable to employment (e.g., vacation, sick, personal, leave of absence).

Travel Requirements:

  • Must be able to travel frequently (generally 1 to 2 times each month) for internal work meetings, representing EDUCAUSE externally, and speaking engagements,which varydepending on the time of year, work priorities, and budget.

Position Summary:
